Spanish Still Life with Walnuts
Oil paint on 1/8″ inch gesso board | 28×30 cm | app. 11×11.8 inches
This is one of my larger and more considered oil artworks. The idea comes when I saw classical old Dutch still life paintings that I love a lot. Instead of all these luxurious fabrics and silverware, I chose some simple Spanish objects – a traditional glass wine pitcher, terracotta cooking pot, faceted glass, Spanish white bread from our local bakery and white linen fabric. It took me a few days to figure out a composition before finally starting to paint.
My favorite part of the paintings like this is looking for opportunities to combine and compare different materials: terracotta clay, crystal, metal of the knife blade… And I´ve enjoyed a lot doing the painting with all these complex textures!
I´m really happy with how this still life came out, besides, I think it has a nice balance between impressionistic and realistic style too.
Thank you so much for viewing my art!
