Impressionistic Lemons

When I paint these small artworks of just picked lemons, I always have to work quickly, almost like on location and I love it! As time goes on, the bright, green color of the leaves becomes darker, with ocher tints. A cold, greenish yellow of the lemons gets warmer and duller as well.
This painting is one of my particular favorites from the series: simple, impressionistic and joyful, slightly careless, but full of light – truly spring still life painting!

The artwork is painted on 1/8″ inch hardboard with two layers of Old Holland white gesso primer.
I use Old Holland Classic oil paints and Old Holland cold pressed bleached linseed oil to increase fluidity of oil colors.
When the thickest areas of my painting are firm I varnish artwork with Gamvar Gloss Varnish, the original Gamvar formula.
